Pre-Loved & New
VGL = very gently loved
& like new… our very gently loved items may exhibit extremely minimal signs of use, having been used for a very brief period of time, however many will often be immaculate due to never having been taken out for dinner or out of the house!
GL = gently loved
& lightly used… our gently loved items may exhibit a few visible signs of use, from slight blemishes to water spots, light surface scuffs on the base and or corners, to gentle softening of leather, rubbing on handles etc.
L = loved
& looked after… our loved items are characterful pieces and often exhibit a wonderful lived in look, from a rich patina to softening of leather, darkening of handles or base edges, to light water spots, tarnish on hardware etc.
All our items are always in fabulous condition…
Whilst we sell the occasional new item, the majority of our stock is in beautifully looked after pre-loved (or pre-owned) condition. Each item on our website has a it’s individual specification covering both design elements and the condition of the product. As we value each item as a “one off”, a full set of images and description enable you to gain a very good idea of that actual item before you buy! All our images and copy are produced in house by our experienced team and each item is honestly described…so there are no surprises in the post.
We only sell pre-owned items in beautiful condition, however it is useful to remember there may be a degree of individual character on the item, dependent upon age, level of usage and leather or fabric type.
This is why we have our 3 pre-loved levels of condition.
Many people enjoy the character associated with gently loved or loved leather, which offers a wonderful degree of individuality simply unavailable straight from the shelf.
Individual character on luxury leathers often really adds to the provenance of your authentic pre-owned handbag. For example darwin leather and NVT (natural vegetable tanned) leather by Mulberry are tanned aniline products. Although designed to gain an exceptional vintaged appearance and patina over time, these types of leather can be susceptible to light water spotting from rain etc and may therefore display associated characteristical qualities through even the most gentle usage.
On each of our products you will find the annotation for one of our 3 pre-loved categories of condition as below…
VGL (very gently loved)
GL (gently loved)
Further to the above our vintage (V) and rare (R) abbreviations will occasionally be applied alongside one of the main categories. So if you see VGL (R) on the item description page this denotes a pre-loved and hard to find or collectible item. An item with NEW (V) means this is a new (never used – possibly with tags attached), vintage item etc.
